History of Swamiji
वासुदेवगुरुं वंदे रागदोषविवर्जितम्|
पूतगात्रं महायात्रं नारायणकरोद्भवम् ।|
- Shree Vasudeva teerth became peethadhipati after Guru Srimannarayana teerth attained haripada on Sri Saka 1439 Ishwara samvatsara Chaitra amavasya.
- Shree Vasudeva teerth ruled for less than a year and initiated Sri Jeevottama teerth on Magha shukla chaturdashi.
- Swamiji attained haripada in Pandharapura on Vaishakha shukla tritiya on Sri Saka 1440.
- In 1510 AD, the Portuguese arrived in Goa, leading to forcible conversions and atrocities.
- The Gaud Saraswat community, along with others, faced persecution and migrated to Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra.
- One group of migrants, traveling in boats, landed near Kundapur, facing starvation and hostility from locals.
- The GSB people did not know Kannada, making communication difficult.
- They settled at the edge of a forest, facing threats from wild animals and selling valuables to survive.
- Elders wrote a “Vinanti patra” describing their sufferings and sought help from Shree Vasudeva teerth swamiji in Bhatkal.
- Swamiji assured them and traveled to Basoor, convincing local leaders to allow the GSBs to live among them.
- Shree Vasudeva teerth built a Dharmashala in Basroor for the GSB families.
- Swamiji advised the GSB families to live harmoniously with the locals and predicted a bright future.
- A priest’s family among the migrants had a Tejaswee Vatu, who was noticed by Swamiji and given sanyaas deeksha as Shree Jeevottama teerth.
- Shree Jeevottama teerth swamiji spread the teachings of Shreemad Ananda teerth bhagavatpada across Bharath.
In Guruparamparamrita it is said
तीरे भीमरथीनद्या वासुदेवमुनेरभूत । वैशाखे मासि शुक्लायां तृतीयां समाधिभूः ।।
