History of Math
- Shreemad Narayan Teerth Swamiji established the first Mutt at Varanasi and then returned to Udupi.
- Guru Shree Ramchandra Teerth Swamiji, after recovering from an ailment, returned to his own Mutt.
- Local brahmins wanted Guru Shree Ramchandra Teerth to rescind the authority over the Peetha that was to be granted to Shree Narayan Teerth.
- Guru Shree Ramchandra Teerth was aware of Shree Narayan Teerth’s worth and service during his pilgrimage.
- Guru Shree Ramchandra Teerth appointed Shree Vidyanidhi Teerth as his successor and advised Shree Narayan Teerth to organize the Saraswat Brahmin community and create a separate Mutt tradition.
- Shree Narayan Teerth arrived at Bhatkal, established a Mutt, and began spreading faith among the Saraswat community in Parashuram Kshetra.
- Bhatkal was under the Keladi Dynasty at that time.
- Keladi rulers accepted Shree Narayan Teerth as their guru and honored him with the title “Vader.”
- From that day, the guru parampara has the title “Vader” added to the names of Swamijis, such as Shreemad Narayan Teerth Shripad Vader Swamiji.
