History of Yellapur Math

  • Shree Lakshmi Narayana Venkatramana Math in Yallapur is the oldest math in the Upper Ghat region of the Sahyadri mountain range.
  • Shreemad Bhuvijaya Ramachandra Teerth, the 14th Swamiji of the Gokarna Math Parampara, built the Yellapur Math around 1790 AD.
  • Yellapur is a town in the dense forests attached to the Upper Ghat Coastal region.

  • As the number of Samaaja Bandhavas in Yellapur increased due to business and employment, the population of Saraswats also grew.
  • Shreemad Vidyadhiraj Teerth Swamiji laid the foundation stone for a new Math Vastu on a spacious site of 1 acre land beside the National Highway at Yellapur.
  • The Deva Pratishtha Karya for the new Math Vastu, consisting of Garbhagraha, Gurubhavana, and Archak Niwas, took place on 08/04/1983.
  • The area experienced prosperity and joy with the visits of Shree Swamiji during the Pratishtha Vardhanti Utsava.
