History of Yellapur Math
- Shree Lakshmi Narayana Venkatramana Math in Yallapur is the oldest math in the Upper Ghat region of the Sahyadri mountain range.
- Shreemad Bhuvijaya Ramachandra Teerth, the 14th Swamiji of the Gokarna Math Parampara, built the Yellapur Math around 1790 AD.
- Yellapur is a town in the dense forests attached to the Upper Ghat Coastal region.
- Swamiji and the troupe traveled from Partagali or Rivan to Yellapur using Mene (Machula – palki) through the thick forest, crossing the Kali River.
- Yellapur served as a central place to reach other parts like Hubli, Sirsi, and Siddapur.
- A Swamiji from the Mantralaya Math wanted to visit Gokarn Kshetra and wrote a letter to Gokarn Math’s Peethadhipati.
- The Swamiji of Mantralaya Math was accompanied by the Swamiji from Yallapur to Gokarn for a Kshetra Darshana, marking a significant event in the history of Yellapur Math.
- As the number of Samaaja Bandhavas in Yellapur increased due to business and employment, the population of Saraswats also grew.
- Shreemad Vidyadhiraj Teerth Swamiji laid the foundation stone for a new Math Vastu on a spacious site of 1 acre land beside the National Highway at Yellapur.
- The Deva Pratishtha Karya for the new Math Vastu, consisting of Garbhagraha, Gurubhavana, and Archak Niwas, took place on 08/04/1983.
- The area experienced prosperity and joy with the visits of Shree Swamiji during the Pratishtha Vardhanti Utsava.
- The Chaturmas of Swamiji at Yellapur in 2003 was marked as Netra Deepak Chaturmas.
